She had a panic assault throughout preterm labor. Then a nurse stepped in : NPR

In Jan. 2020, Teresa Hernandez was 33 weeks pregnant. One morning, she had a wierd feeling about her child. He wasn’t transferring as he normally did. She determined to go to the hospital to verify every part was OK.

When she bought there, she and her husband discovered that the infant’s coronary heart price was dropping. Her physician advised her that the infant wanted to be delivered that day, by C-section.

“When she stated that, I used to be in full shock,” Hernandez remembered. “I stated, ‘However he is too little.’ And she or he stated, ‘Sure, but when he is inside, I will not be capable of assist him if one thing goes mistaken.'”

They rushed Hernandez to the working room. On the way in which, her nervousness grew to become overwhelming. She began to cry and have bother respiratory, and she or he knew she was having a panic assault. That is when a nurse within the working room stepped in to assist.

“This nurse, she took my hand and began squeezing. After which she held me whereas they have been doing the epidural. And she or he began rubbing my again. After which I feel she positioned one hand on my cheek. And she or he began buzzing,” Hernandez recalled.

“I felt like my mother was there, holding me.”

Other than her husband, Hernandez had no household together with her. However the nurse’s gesture of heat introduced her reduction. It made it really feel like her mother was by her facet.

“When your mother is there, you’re feeling protected. You’re feeling like you are able to do it. You’re feeling like every part goes to be proper. And that is what I felt together with her,” Hernandez stated.

Hernadez’s son, Lucca, was born on Jan. 8, 2020. He spent 5 weeks within the neonatal intensive care unit at Texas Well being Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, Texas. She says that Lucca is now wholesome and thriving.

Wanting again, Hernandez remembers a string of unsung heroes who helped her that day. However she says that nurse within the working room was the primary one — the one which left an enduring impression.

“I am actually, actually grateful for her, for what she did that day for me.”
