Zee Studios has issued an apology to Hindutva group Vishva Hindu Parishad for allegedly hurting the spiritual sentiments of Hindus and Brahmins on account of scenes within the movie Annapoorani, the Deccan Herald reported on Thursday.
“We now have no intentions as co-producers of the movie to harm the spiritual sentiments of the Hindus and Brahmins group and wish to hereby apologize for the inconvenience triggered and the damage triggered to the feelings of respective communities,” the letter stated.
The movie has been faraway from streaming platform Netflix after it acquired backlash from Hindutva teams who alleged that some scenes from the movie challenge deity Ram as a meat eater.
Some folks on social media made calls to boycott the movie and demanded that it’s withdrawn.
Ramesh Solanki, a former Shiv Sena member, filed a grievance with the Mumbai Police towards the filmmakers and actor Nayanthara, alleging that their movie has damage Hindu sentiments, the newspaper report stated.
The supporters of the Vishva Hindu Parishad held an illustration exterior the Netflix workplace in Mumbai, demanding the platform take away the movie.
The movie was produced by Zee Studios in affiliation with Trident Arts and Naad Studios and launched in theatres on December 1. Besodes Nayanthara, the movie stars Jai Sampath, Sathyaraj, Achyuth Kumar, Kumari Sachu, KS Ravikumar, Redin Kingsly, Karthik Kumar and Suresh Chakaravarthy.
