AN Military officer was crushed to dying by an armoured personnel provider after a security alarm had gone unfixed for years.
Second Lieutenant Max George, 26, bought out of the Warrior moments earlier than its driver “reversed at pace” and unknowingly ran him over.
The crew had been 40 metres away earlier than they realised he had been hit in the course of the train on Salisbury Plain, Wilts, in 2022.
The alarm would have alerted the driving force that the car’s rear door had been opened and would have “virtually actually” saved Lt George’s life.
It broke in 2018.
An investigation discovered the Military was “over-committed and under-resourced” which put troopers at “appreciable danger”.
Air Marshal Steve Shell, of the Defence Security Authority added: “This accident was preventable and there are areas we should enhance upon instantly to stop it taking place once more.”
Lt Col Jim Hadfield stated of Lt George: “He was a pure commander who exuded fierce willpower matched by selfless compassion.”
The Military stated: “We’ve accepted all of the suggestions, together with extra security measures for the Warrior rear exit.”
