United States (U.S.) Scholar Helps Ethiopian Universities Strengthen Internationalization

The US has been a key associate within the growth of Ethiopia’s increased schooling system because the 1950’s, with the event of Jimma and Haramaya agricultural faculties beneath President Truman’s Level 4 program.  Since then, dozens of U.S. universities have partnered with the Ministry of Training and Ethiopian public universities with an depth and persistence uncommon in Sub Saharan Africa.  Collectively, U.S. and Ethiopian universities are collaborating to advance the standard of schooling in a variety of fields together with entrepreneurship, agriculture, peace constructing, public well being, and different areas. 

Within the spirit of the Level 4 program and the a hundred and twentieth anniversary of U.S.-Ethiopian relations, the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Training co-hosted a workshop in Addis Ababa January 16 and 17 to assist public universities strengthen their worldwide engagements, particularly with U.S. universities.  The worldwide affairs administrators and vice presidents from the primary ten universities transitioning to autonomy and 5 different universities which can be aggressively pursuing internationalization joined the workshop.  This system was led by Dr. Erich Dietrich, Vice Provost of New York College Abu Dhabi and an knowledgeable within the internationalization of upper schooling and fairness in entry to increased schooling.   

Dr. Dietrich is in Ethiopia on a Fulbright Specialist change sponsored by the U.S. Division of State.  As a part of his program in Ethiopia, Dietrich can also be working with the Ministry of Training’s internationalization group to assist them enhance their pointers, insurance policies, and frameworks for internationalization; Addis Ababa College, which has positioned internationalization as considered one of its most pressing priorities in its transition to autonomy; and Arba Minch College, which is establishing its worldwide relations workplace as a mannequin to be emulated by different mid-sized Ethiopian public universities.
