France reiterates its condemnation of the assaults carried out by the Houthis towards industrial ships within the Purple Sea, which undermine navigational rights and freedoms. By these armed actions, the Houthis bear full duty for regional escalation. We name on them to finish these assaults and to instantly launch the Galaxy Chief and its crew, whom they’ve held hostage since November 19, 2023.

We supported the adoption of UN Safety Council Decision 2722 on January 10, which states that the train of navigational rights and freedoms should be revered and that States have the precise to defend their ships towards these assaults, in accordance with worldwide regulation.

France will proceed shouldering its duties and contributing to maritime safety within the space along side its companions within the area, with the intention of avoiding a regional escalation. We’re persevering with to deploy a French frigate within the Purple Sea for that objective. We’re working with our companions to have the EU step up its contribution to maritime safety within the Purple Sea.
