Rahul Gandhi alleges he was denied entry into Assam temple

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that the Assam authorities prevented him from visiting Batadrava Satra Temple, the birthplace of Fifteenth-century scholar and reformer Srimanta Sankardeva in Nagaon, NDTV reported.

“We wish to go to the temple,” Gandhi stated. “What crime have I dedicated that I can’t go to the temple? We don’t wish to create any issues, we merely wish to pray on the temple.”

On Sunday, the administration committee of the temple had urged the Congress MP to not go to it until the Ram temple in Ayodhya was consecrated. Gandhi was scheduled to supply prayers on the shrine as a part of Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, whereas Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Congress Normal Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh alleged that the temple administration committee was pressured by the Assam chief minister to vary its resolution on letting Gandhi go to.

Ramesh stated that the celebration had conveyed to the committee Gandhi’s need to go to the temple on January 11 by Congress MLAs Shibomani Barua Rana Goswami. He stated that the committee had “welcomed and supported” Gandhi’s need.

The Congress MP from Kaliabor, Gaurav Gogoi, stated that he visited the temple on behalf of Gandhi after he was denied permission by the police who cited legislation and order and a pre-scheduled programme.
