EU’s Michel to run in election, will depart publish mid-July – Euractiv

EU Council President Charles Michel will run within the election for European Parliament in June and can depart his publish mid-July if he will get elected, he mentioned in an interview with Belgian newspaper De Standaard printed on Saturday (6 January).

“I’ve determined to run within the European elections in 2024,” Michel mentioned.

“If I get elected, I’ll take my seat. The European Council can anticipate and identify a successor by end-June, early-July.”

Michel, 48, is a former Belgian prime minister and has served as chief of the EU Council, the group of presidency leaders of the 27 EU member states, since late 2019.

He’ll run as the highest candidate for his Belgian center-right Motion Reformateur (MR) social gathering, De Standaard mentioned.

The European Parliament election is scheduled to be held on 6 to 9 June 2024.
